As one might imagine with the state of our educational system, wood shop has turned into much more than just a class. He currently teaches wood shop, graphic design, and construction! All in a day’s work! Every May, Maui hosts the International Festival of Canoes. For the past 7 years, he has been asked to participate in the event. He and his students begin the festival with a log and within 2 weeks, they turn that log into a wa’a, a canoe. Jeremy is very passionate about preserving his culture. So he tries to impart a piece of history onto the keiki, kids, to give them a sense of pride in where they live and the culture they represent. Each year he enters his students into the Hawaii Technology Education Association (HTEA) Fair. Every year since he started teaching, his Lahainaluna students have won best in show in at least 2 categories! This year, his students won everything they entered! Imua Lahainaluna!
